A new trip! We’re spending this coming winter in Spain and Portugal. We’ve been to both countries before and Leo was also born in Spain! The plan is to find new nice spots and do lots of hiking.
After a beautiful drive through the French Pyrenees, we cross the border at Aragnouet. A small, very quiet border crossing through a tunnel. You can already enjoy some lovely walks here!
Spanish Pyrenees
Hike Bielsa
Our first stop is in the village of Bielsa. We’re parked near a campsite, but that’s no problem. There’s a nice grassy area next to the river, where we’ll spend the night.

What lovely weather! A bit chilly in the morning, but then the sun breaks through, over 20 degrees Celsius 😎
We walk up the mountain and enjoy stunning views along the way. We’re the only ones on this trail. I love the silence, being together with the sounds of nature. It’s been a while since I’ve hiked in the mountains and the physical exertion is truly fantastic, I was looking forward to this.
Hike Aínsa
Aínsa is a Medieval village and is listed as one of the “most beautiful villages in Spain”. Outside the village, there’s a campervan site where you can stay overnight for €8.

Leo and I go for a walk, I don’t know exactly where or how long. I love it! We first climb over 600 meters. At the top, you have a view of the river and the old village. The hiking trail suddenly ends, so we continue on the mountain bike path. Not ideal, but luckily there are no cyclists at the moment. A great 16.5 km circular walk.
Congost de Mont-Rebei gorge
Congost de Mont-Rebei is the only gorge (of this size) in Catalonia that remains virtually untouched. The ravine’s walls are up to 500 meters high and, in some places, barely 20 meters wide.

A FAN-TAS-TIC hike! A path has been carved into the canyon wall and you’ll be walking at a high elevation, so you shouldn’t have a fear of heights. The azure water is a gorgeous sight with the red and yellow kayaks floating in the water. You hike back and forth, so you can make the hike as long as you like.
The dog is welcome, but beware: the suspension bridge path is made of metal mesh and my dog wouldn’t walk across it; I had to pick him up. After a good hour of walking, the path becomes a bit more difficult due to boulders. We turned around here and enjoyed the surroundings again on the way back.

Sierra y Cañones de Guara
Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park. We choose a 14.5-kilometer hike. A loop from the parking lot, ideal!
Well, if you don’t go the wrong way, haha. I only realize it after 7 kilometers… We visit a wonderful lake where Leo goes for a swim and then simply walk back the same route.
I’m enjoying the complete silence and the view of the gorge; the nature here is still surprisingly green. Check out this video!
Huesca city

An overnight stay in the city of Huesca, where you can walk endlessly! Huesca has a flat landscape and is located on the Camino de Santiago from Barcelona to Santiago de Compostela. This time we’re choosing a different route, the PR-HU 141, to the church of Ermita de Loreto.

Jaca city
Laundry, groceries, diesel, and back to the mountains. In Jaca, we take a city walk.
The citadel is magnificent! Deer roam the dry moat.
Back to the campervan through the charming streets and past the cathedral.
Foz de Arbayún & Foz de Santa Colomba
We drive to the 300 m deep Foz de Arbayún gorge. There’s a lookout point with phenomenal views! And sometimes you can even spot birds of prey here.

A little further on, we’re going on a short hike to Foz de Santa Colomba. It’s a 3-kilometer loop in a gorge with some steep climbs and descents. The river is empty, but the small amount of water reflects the gorge, very nice!

Hike Santelices – Puente Dey
Next stop a campervan site on the Camino in Santelices! We’re on our way to the Picos de Europa, but we’re going to hike here first. There’s a 15 km loop trail to the village of Puente Dey. Here, houses and a small church are built on top of a natural cave bridge. It’s a lovely village, recommended!

Puerto de Piedrasluengas
Puerto de Piedrasluengas at 1357 meters altitude, stop here for a moment to enjoy the amazing view!

You can also enjoy mountain hikes in this area, but we’re driving on to our next destination: Potes in the Picos de Europa mountains. That’s where we’ve arranged to meet our campervan friend Pamela. Please follow us on our next travel!
