Winter in Andalusia

Village square Baza

Last year I also went to Andalusia in winter time and I really enjoyed it. This winter I was in Africa and on the way back to Holland I am enjoying this second largest province of Spain again. Leo and I are going to look for amazing new places!

Tarifa

At the southernmost point of Europe lies Tarifa, a nice little city and a surfers paradise. I meet Jasper and later also Sean and his wife who are parked with the camper at the same spot, nice! We walk the dogs together and drink coffees.

Puerto Santa Maria

In Puerto Santa Maria I have arranged to meet Dutch friends with dog Bella. Dark clouds hang above the white apartment buildings. We take a nice walk on the beach together before the rain shower breaks loose. Leo and Bella love each other and run on the beach, great!

From P. Santa Maria you can take the ferry to Cádiz. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for us, because dogs are not allowed. We walk around P. Santa Maria and see the castle, churches, the bullring and finally have a beer on the terrace.

National Park Grazalema

The white village of Grazalema is located at an altitude of approximately 1200 meters in a national park. A park where you can walk perfectly! The village is also definitely worth a visit. I enjoy the wonderful view and a nice lunch with English friends!

White villages

From Grazalema I drive to Ubrique, also a white village. In the morning Leo and I walk a nice walking route along the river. We have to hurry a bit because I have lunch with Mikael in Casares. The view along the route via Gaucin is phenomenal!

Siërra Nevada mountains

Via another fantastic route! I drive to Juviles in the Sierra Nevada. Via winding roads in the mountains I arrive at a camper place with a magnificent view wow! This region is known for its ham.

My German neighbor gives me a tip for a nice walk. There is a good walking path down to the river and then a bit up the mountain and via a narrow footpath back to the village. I take the wrong turn and walk all the way to the top with a few ruins and a stunning view! Then we walk on goat paths, oh dear we went completely the wrong way… Back via the same way so we don’t get lost. What a great walk!

Baza

The route to Baza is one of the most beautiful I have driven in a long time! There is even snow on the highest peak of about 1900 mtr altitude. We wind tens of kilometers on narrow mountain roads and I enjoy every moment. Downhill there is a view of the red valley and the hills with cave dwellings. I love Sierra Nevada!

Embalse de Negratin

On to the lake Embalse de Negratin not far from Baza. An area with forests, a gigantic lake and total silence. Unfortunately also many nests of the processionary caterpillar. I do not see the caterpillars, but this is not ideal for the dog. We go back to the coast.

Roquetas de Mar

We park at a nice spot on the coast. Haha what a joke! Friends from the Netherlands are here too! Spain is one big social event for me.

A nice walk along the boulevard to the lighthouse, the (little) castle and the harbour. Roquetas de Mar has a perfect beach!

Gabo de Gata

Via Almería I drive to Gabo de Gata. In the nature reserve we walk to the blue church and the old tower. It is the end of February, the sun is shining, the birds are whistling and it feels like spring, what a wonderful place.

The next day I go to the Faro de Gabo de Gata, the lighthouse from 1863 is a historical monument.

Idyllic camper spots

I meet Ronald and his dog Indy from the Netherlands and we travel together for a week. We visit my two favorite places from last year. Gabo de Gata near San José and the Tabernas desert. Incredible places to camp!

Villaricos

A nice village, beautiful beach and large camper place by the sea! What more could you want? The weather seems to get worse but not today, I am relaxed.

It has been raining all night, OMG I should have left yesterday and stood on the asphalt. I am almost stuck in the wet sand and it is so muddy! The streets are flooded, more bad weather is forecasted so I decide to drive north.

Andalusia, we enjoyed 6 weeks and discovered so many beautiful new places! Bye bye and see you soon Andalusia 🖐️
