Winter in Morocco II

Morocco is the perfect country to spend the winter! The weather is great and there is plenty to do. Like the sea, beach, cities, culture, fishing villages, mountains and desert. And much more, so please read my blog!

Border crossing Morocco 🇲🇦

After my West African adventure I am back in Morocco! But first a stamp in my passport, carte blanche for the camper and the car through the scanner. It is 5:30 pm, I ger through the customs quickly and the officials are friendly, great!

I fill up with diesel at the Shell at the border crossing and it’s no problem to spend the night here.
Up early the next day, just get some groceries and a SIM card. Super relaxed, it’s so easy to arrange these things here.

Dakhla

While driving to Dakhla the wind is blowing incredibly hard, wow even worse than the way there! Two hands on the steering wheel, little visibility and sand everywhere. Regular police checks and then all the sand is blown in. It is very intensive driving! And also when a truck passes, a storm of sand and wind, I have to make an effort to stay in my own lane.

In Dakhla the wind quickly decreases and later the sand is out of the air, that’s how fast it can go. Great, then we go for a walk on the endless beaches of Dakhla and watch kite surfers.

On the road in the Sahara desert

Whaaat the paint of my license plate is sandblasted off. I even have to paint the numbers and letters black again, what a joke! Today about 4 hours drive to Boujdour. And this time is also correct, good asphalt roads, hardly any police checks and just drive on.

Along the way I see special monuments, at roundabouts or when entering a village. There are also gigantic windmill parks built, for kilometers I drive between the windmills. Most signs are in Arabic and French, this sign isn’t but I think it means STOP 🙂

Tan Tan Plage

Tan Tan Plage, we are back in Morocco and have left Western Sahara.

Chatting with neighbors Susanne and Pelle about Mauritania and Senegal, super fun! Thomas makes coffee and suddenly it is 12.30 pm, a bit late to leave, I will stay another day.

Are you joining us for dinner? Spaghetti bolognese with camel mince is on the menu. Yes, great! I walk with Susanne and Thomas to the store and on the outside of the butcher’s shop the camel heads hang for recognition or proof? It is unpleasant to see so I don’t take any pictures. Afterwards we chat a lot while enjoying a delicious meal on Christmas Eve, life is good.

Guelmim

The sky is yellow again and there’s a lot of wind. Little visibility on the way to Guelmim so I’m focused. Especially the mopeds you only see at the last moment… There are sand sliders working to keep the road clear. After a tough ride we arrive safely in Guelmim.

Camping Auberge Touareg

Found a nice spot at Mohammed in Aït Bekkou. Upon arrival I get Moroccan tea, almonds and dates. In this area you can walk beautifully between the palm trees with a view of the mountains.

Andreas and Rama are standing next to me and we chat about everything, lovely people! In the afternoon we are offered couscous by Mohammed and in the evening we enjoy live music, this small campsite is recommended!

Via Fask to Imsouane

First an amazing route on a narrow asphalt road with a view of the Ouarkziz Mountains. Then I enjoy a stunning vast landscape with small authentic villages.

Sidi Kaouki my favorite!

Enjoying another fantastic route, this time to Sidi Kouaki! I get a speeding ticket but after a little chat I don’t have to pay haha, watch out for the 60 km signs! We wind our way through the mountains to the coast. I’m not the only one enjoying it, I come across so many campers. Ali’s Camping Soleil is completely full! I have to wait in the middle of the campsite for a camping spot.

Slept wonderfully! Not too cold, no noise and a barking dog far away. What a nice place this is. I can move my camper to a regular camping spot and decide to stay a bit longer. Relax and relax some more, I meet many nice people, lots of fun here! We walk on the beach, Leo plays with the street dogs and I enjoy the bird that picks pieces of apple. Please watch this video!

Quad biking

Today I’m going quad biking with Freddy and that’s really awesome! Haha I didn’t expect that at all, this is great fun! We see goats, a camel with a white eye and ride fast across the beach.

Argan trees

The Argan tree is a tree that can only be found in the southwest of Morocco. The tree has been growing here for centuries and can grow well thanks to the nutritious soil, the sun and the maritime climate in this area.

It is time to leave Sidi Kaouki. On the way I see goats in the Argan tree and the goatherd wants a tip for the photo.

I am having a great time in Morocco and decide to drive an extra round before I take the boat to Spain. Our next stop is Paradise Valley, will you travel with us?
